Istanbul is most probably not the first choice for new year celebrations but you will be surprised how the city prepares itself with outdoor and indoor activities throughout the city!
Although Christmas is not celebrated in this region, they go all out for New Year with big indoor and outdoor activities. Big firework displays, street parties in various public squares and at atmosphere to remember, all part of the the big night of in Istanbul for a New Year.
If you plan to go to a street party, head over to Nişantası or Kadıköy or Bosphorus Bridge. Best is to dine in the area and join the party afterwards where you will be able to buy drinks from nearby shops. If you plan to celebrate indoors, various restaurants, bars and clubs offer tickets at a fixed price. Whatever you decide to do, it is advisable to be book beforehand.
You can easily arrive in Istanbul from Malta with Turkish Airlines (click here) direct flight that operates daily form Malta. You also have the availability to choose various dates in December for the same price (see matrix below). We are choosing the dates that seem more logical for various reasons; from Wednesday 30th December to Sunday 3rd January but you can stay more days if you’d like to. You also have a choice to leave Istanbul late in the evening instead of the morning flight for the same price! Remember that a 20kg luggage is included in the price!
There are plenty of accommodations to choose from in Istanbul and the best part is that during the high season prices are not inflated. You can still find cheap hotel rooms that will not break your wallet. The ones we are suggesting below are all in the city centre close to all the main attractions.
Story House Istanbul (click here) is located in the heart of the historic peninsula, a self catering accommodation within walking distance to the main attractions. The price for a double room is only €130 for 4 nights. That’s only €65 per person. If you opt for the triple room (price €170), the price per person drops to €56.66 for 4 nights!
Alf Hotel Old City (click here) is one of those hotels which is centrally located with very good reviews. The price for a triple room including breakfast is that of €198 for a 4 night stay. Thats €66 per person for the whole stay.
Sultans Hotel (click here) is also very centrally located. The basic twin room (which is partially in a basement) is at the price of €180 for 4 nights. You can opt for the economy double room which is only €20 more than the basic for the price of €200. The only downside of this hotel is that the rooms might be a little small but still has excellent reviews from travellers who have stayed at this hotel.
